I’ve just bought Red Dead Redemption 2 on Epic Games after snagging it during a sale (15€ in Ireland instead of the usual 50€). I’m trying to get it running on my Steam Deck, but I’m hitting all sorts of snags. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
– Installed Heroic Games Launcher on Desktop Mode via Discover.
– Logged into my Epic account, and I can see RDR2 there.
– Tried to install it, but it instantly says ‘installed’ even though the game isn’t actually on my device.
– Can’t launch the game either — it just fails or does nothing at all.
– I attempted to manually check the .local folder for paths but had trouble until I figured out how to show hidden files.
– Configured Proton GE in Heroic but saw no improvement.
– Not sure if I also need to do something about the Rockstar Launcher.
– I’m also looking for a smoother way to run Epic Games titles on the Deck, especially big ones like RDR2.
Has anyone successfully gotten RDR2 from Epic to run on the Steam Deck? I’d really appreciate a clear step-by-step guide or any fixes you’ve come across. Thanks in advance!

Just a heads up, it might take some trial and error to get everything working. Check forums dedicated to Steam Deck gaming — they often have useful tips for getting Epic Games titles to run smoothly!
Ugh, I know your pain! After trying so many things, I eventually gave up and just installed it on Windows. I really hope it works better there! 😩
You definitely need to log into the Rockstar Launcher to install the game. If you can’t see it in your apps, consider manually downloading it from the browser and installing it that way.
Have you tried adjusting the game’s resolution in the Heroic launcher settings? Setting it to something like 1280×800 might help with performance, although I get that you’re facing installation issues first.
Yeah, I get that! I’m just stuck on the installation part before I can even think about resolution settings.
Thanks! I’ll try installing the Rockstar Launcher directly and see if that helps.
