I’ve been a fan of RvR since my days in DAoC, but I’m struggling to get into the World vs World (WvW) in Guild Wars 2. My main issue is that I prefer ranged play, and it seems like there’s a lot of negativity towards ranged characters in WvW lately. I’m seeking a solid support build, especially since the last patch changed up how support roles work. I have all the classes and their elite specs unlocked, and I can invest in an exotic gear set quickly. What are the top support options right now?

The hate really comes down to projectiles being a tough sell right now. There are some solid ranged options, though! For support, you can’t go wrong with Firebrand, Chronomancer, or Scrapper. Tempest can work too depending on your group’s makeup, but those three will get you into any squad if you know the basics. Also, consider non-projectile options like Mesmer’s Greatsword or Necro’s Scepter when you want to keep your distance.
What do you mean by ‘ranged hate’? I’m pretty new to WvW and trying to learn more about it.
If you’re considering ranged DPS, spear warrior is a great option. But for support, I’d still recommend Firebrand, Chrono, or Scrapper, as well as Druid or Tempest for variety. Staff support Catalyst is also worth a try if you want something unique! Just remember that the scene can change, so keep your options open.
Not gonna lie, the Thief class isn’t cutting it for support anymore. Just not viable in this meta.
If you want to stick with ranged and enjoy WvW, consider roaming with Axe/Pistol Daredevil. You can spam stealth using Pistol 5 and create a lot of chaos by launching surprise attacks. It’s super effective and a blast to play!
Your playstyle matters a lot! If you prefer roaming or smaller skirmishes, there are definitely viable ranged builds that can pack a punch with hit-scan abilities. Firebrand is great for support, but Chrono is really dominating right now. It’s super versatile and has a higher skill ceiling, which means more potential impact if you put in the time to learn it well.
While I usually steer clear of pistols, I agree that Axe/Daredevil can be a game-changer, especially when you coordinate with other players to maximize boon stealing.
