I’m from Virginia and I bought a laptop from someone with the intention of gifting it to my roommate before he moves to Korea. However, the seller didn’t mention that the laptop was hardware banned, and now my roommate has lost his long-time Rainbow Six Siege account because of it. The seller claims it’s my fault for not asking if he used it for cheating and is refusing to refund me. I’m really frustrated because I’m out $450 for a laptop that we can’t even use! Is there anything legal I can do about this, or is there any advice on how to handle this situation? Thanks for any help!

Yeah, it seems you’ve lost your money. It’s a tough spot since you can’t really prove the seller was hiding information. I’d suggest checking if there’s any local consumer protection agency for advice, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
Honestly, it sounds like you’re probably out of luck here. If it had been from a major retailer, you might have a shot at a refund, but private sales come with risks like this. Always tough when you’re dealing with private sellers!
Totally agree! It’s really disappointing when people don’t disclose issues like this.
Thanks for the insight. It really sucks to lose both the money and my roommate’s account.
