Hey everyone, I’m having some major problems with my Steam Deck and I could really use some help. I was playing Elden Ring and encountered a glitch that made the keyboard pop up when I was trying to send a message in the Roundtable Hold. Ever since that, my controls are all messed up.
Here’s what’s been going on:
– The right D-Pad is acting like the “A” button, and the Up D-Pad isn’t working at all.
– The Steam Button has stopped responding completely.
– My mouse cursor is constantly visible, even in Game Mode.
– In Desktop Mode, the left trackpad is totally unresponsive.
– The controls don’t function while I’m playing any game.
– To top it off, my Steam Deck brings up the Shortcuts Menu every single time I start it up!
I’ve tried a full factory reset, but that didn’t fix it. The problem just comes back right away, even during the initial setup process, and adjusting the controller settings hasn’t helped either. I’m pretty sure this is a software issue since it seems to fix itself for a few moments, but I’m really at a loss for how to solve it. If anyone has experienced something similar or has any solutions, I’d be super grateful for your advice!

So I had similar issues once and it turned out to be a network problem! I was at a friend’s place with multiple WiFi extenders, and it caused my Deck’s controls to go nuts. I switched to the 5GHz Wi-Fi network instead of the 2.4GHz, and everything started working perfectly again!
I read in the Steam discussions that some people noted control issues related to Wi-Fi connectivity. Not sure why, but it’s great to hear you found the fix!
That’s such a wild solution! Glad you got it fixed.
