So I just turned on my PS5 and was prompted to sign in again. After logging in, I got a notification saying my online ID was changed for one of my users. Turns out it was my own account that got flagged. I’ve had my username “Big-Ass-Panda” for like 15 years and it’s always earned me compliments and laughs in multiplayer lobbies. I knew about the username change feature and the rules, but I never thought mine would be reported or flagged as offensive. Now I have to pick a new name and am kind of bummed about losing this one. Does anyone know if there’s any way to reverse or appeal this kind of forced name change?

That’s rough but honestly, it’s probably for the best to move on. I’ve seen way worse usernames still floating around, but the rules are still inconsistent sometimes. There’s no official way to reverse these enforced changes as far as I know. Just try to come up with something cool and new—maybe this is an opportunity to refresh your gaming identity!
Honestly, usernames like yours can be a mix of funny to some and offensive to others. Sony tends to crack down on anything that could be seen as inappropriate or potentially offensive to keep the community safe. So while your name might have been a joke or harmless to you, it’s likely someone reported it due to the wording. Unfortunately, once Sony forces a name change for reasons like this, it’s usually not reversible. You’ll probably need to pick a different name that sticks to their guidelines moving forward.
I get why you’re bummed, especially after 15 years with the same name. But from experience, Sony’s moderation is pretty strict these days. The newer generation gaming space is more sensitive to things that would’ve flown under the radar before. It kinda sucks, but it’s just how the system is now—people report almost anything that remotely looks offensive. Your best bet is to come up with a new username that avoids words that might be flagged, even if they seem funny to you.
Yeah, it’s frustrating for sure. I guess I’ll have to brainstorm something fresh and less likely to get reported.
Not to defend the system, but I can see why some people would get offended. It’s a gamer community with all sorts of backgrounds and preferences, so rules like these try to keep the experience comfortable for as many players as possible. It’s annoying when you’ve had a name for over a decade, but sometimes you have to adapt. Maybe think of a fun alternative that still reflects your personality but avoids words that could get flagged.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ll try to think of something cool that fits me and avoids controversy this time around.
