Last night my PS5 suddenly shut off and now it refuses to turn back on. Both controllers also unpaired themselves and their blue lights just keep flashing when I try to power them on. I’ve tried unplugging the console overnight and powering it on again, but all I get is a beep with no lights, no fan noise, and no other signs of life. The eject button beeps three times but nothing else happens. I even tried booting in safe mode by holding the power button for a long time, but it does nothing. I’m wondering if I should just cut my losses and buy a new PS5 or if there’s any way to fix this at home without sending it to a service center.

Since your PS5 is over three years old and out of warranty, it might be risky to invest in repairs that could end up costing more than a new console. The symptoms you’re describing — no power except a beep and unpaired controllers — can sometimes be caused by a hardware failure that’s not easy to fix at home. Unless you have experience opening consoles and replacing parts, buying a new one might save you time and headaches.
If you’re worried about price hikes or shortages, you could grab a new PS5 now but keep it sealed for a while. That way, if you manage to fix your current one eventually, you’ll have a backup or a spare to sell later. It’s a bit of a gamble but might save you some hassle if your current console is totally dead and you don’t want to be offline for long.
Have you tried holding both the power and eject buttons at the same time to boot into safe mode? Sometimes just holding the power button isn’t enough. Also, if your PS5 hasn’t been cleaned in a while, dust buildup can cause heat issues and sudden shutdowns. Try giving it a thorough cleaning (careful not to void warranty if you still have it), as overheating can cause these problems.
