My PS4 Slim overheated and shut itself off. When I tried to clean it and plugged it back in, it seems completely dead — no lights, no sounds, nothing. I’ve attempted a factory reset, safe mode, and hard reset, but I don’t even get a beep or any sign of life. Before it shut off, the fan sounded like it was struggling to spin properly, and the power cord made a zapping noise when I plugged it in. Has anyone experienced this or knows what might fix it?

I’ve had a similar problem where my PS4 flashed red and wouldn’t turn on properly. After a very thorough cleaning, especially disassembling to clean the heatsink inside, my PS4 worked like new again. It’s scary to open it up, but sometimes dust really messes up the cooling system and causes shutdowns and no power signs.
Since your console is about a year and a half old and you’ve already cleaned it recently, it might be a faulty power supply or internal hardware damage from the overheating. The zapping noise from the power cord could indicate a short or electrical issue. If cleaning again doesn’t help, you might need to get it checked by a professional or consider replacement parts.
Sounds like there might be a hardware issue, especially since you mentioned the power cord zapping and the fan acting up. If it’s just overheated, a deep clean might help, especially around the heatsink and fan. Sometimes dust buildup causes the fan to jam and can make the unit shut down to protect itself. If you feel comfortable opening it, try cleaning the heatsink thoroughly and checking for any visible damage or burnt parts around the power supply area.
