Hey everyone! I’m really keen to chat about superbosses in Final Fantasy games. For those who don’t know, superbosses are optional or well-hidden bosses that offer a serious challenge in RPGs. My first notable encounter was with Omega and Shinryuu in Final Fantasy 5. I remember trying to beat them without losing anyone in my party, which was tough but I managed to pull it off! I’m also curious about the PS2 era games because I’ve heard there are some iconic superbosses there that I haven’t tackled yet. Also, I realized I mistakenly titled this ‘Trouble’ initially, so my bad on that! Let’s hear your stories!

I’d put Yiazmat from FF12 and Adamantoise from FF15 on the list. They aren’t just challenging; they’re like massive HP sponges that take forever to go down!
I’ve never beaten Omega and Shinryu in FF5, or any of the Dark Aeons without Zanmato. Trying to get Yojimbo is a hassle too, especially with his 200,000 Gil asking price in the tenth game!
Yeah, making that much Gil is totally a grind in X! Good luck getting him!
Minerva from Crisis Core is a real pain! In hard mode, she has over 77 million HP which just makes her so time-consuming to beat. You can use Gil Toss to take her down faster, but getting the Gil takes about 20 hours just by itself!
Can you tell me how to find her in Reunion Edition? I want a shot at her too!
That’s wild! I had no idea it would be that much of a grind!
The last boss from the ‘Echoes of the Fallen’ DLC in FF16 was insane! I had to take a breather halfway through the fight, which is something I’ve never had to do before. It really hit me with that difficulty spike and nostalgia!
I have the DLC too but haven’t tried it yet. I had to take a breather when fighting Titan, so I guess I’ll be somewhat ready for Bahamut! Lol.
That boss was absolutely sick! Right on!
I won’t drop any spoilers for the PS2 games, but I love how in FF9, the optional boss Hades mentions beating another boss named Ozma. It’s like he’s impressed with your skills before even fighting you!
No spoilers, please! But I’m definitely looking to take on those bosses you mentioned!
I’m currently playing through FF7 with my kids. We just started, and I’m determined to take down Ruby Weapon this time! Funny how the games feel easier now; they had me pulling my hair out as a kid!
Right? Ruby is such a trickster. A good tip is starting the fight with two KO’d characters and using Phoenix after he puts his tentacles down. Otherwise, he’s a nightmare!
Emerald Weapon in FF7 was such a grind. I tried to take him on underleveled, and it was rough, but totally fun! FF7 was generally easier for me, but this guy really kicked my butt!
FF5’s Omega and Shinryu were my first big challenges too! I tried so hard to prep for Shinryu and he wiped my team with Flood, except for Bartz who leaped in from nowhere and took him down the next turn. I also never managed to beat Emerald and Ruby Weapons in FF7, but I’m planning a rematch soon!
Did you know that on the pixel remaster, you can one-shot Omega? Might make your replay a bit easier!
I remember I gave up on Omega in FF12 back then too, but now I want to redeem myself!
How do you actually fight the Adamantoise? I really want to tackle that one!
