I’m in the market for a new gaming laptop and could use some help deciding. Currently, I have a 3-year-old Acer Nitro 5 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, and an Nvidia 3060 GPU. I usually game about 4 to 5 hours a week, mostly when I’m traveling or stuck at airports. Here are my options: 1) Acer Nitro V15 with Intel i9-13900H, 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD, RTX 4060; 2) MSI Cyborg 15 with Intel i7-13620H, 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD, RTX 4060 (but it’s limited to 45W GPU); 3) HP Victus 16 with Intel i7-14650HX, 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD, RTX 4060; 4) Lenovo LOQ 15 with AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD, RTX 4060; 5) ASUS TUF A15 with AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS, 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD, RTX 4060. I’ve heard mixed things about the Lenovo due to motherboard issues. Which one would you recommend?

I’d recommend the LOQ 15 with the 8845HS as it shouldn’t have those motherboard issues. Out of your options, that’s my top pick!
I’m a bit biased towards Lenovo, so I’d go for one of their models. If you’re concerned about the motherboard issues, consider the Legion series instead of the LOQ. If you’re unsure about Lenovo, the ASUS TUF series looks solid and has a decent reputation. It’s really a personal choice, but both Lenovo and ASUS have good offerings here!
I’d pick the LOQ with the efficient AMD CPU. Your current laptop is still pretty decent, though! What’s making you want to upgrade now?
Definitely go for the LOQ. If that’s not your style, the Nitro would be my second pick. The others just don’t seem as good to me.
Just to add, the reported motherboard failures mainly affect the Intel variants of the LOQ. I currently see the AMD version available in South Africa, which might be safer to choose.
