I recently came across a post about superhero RPGs which inspired me to create a campaign using AMP for my gaming group. We enjoy doing one-shots set in different time periods, and I’m looking to rewrite a campaign set in 1943. I’m curious if anyone can recommend some interesting materials, especially videos or podcasts, that discuss the social impacts and historical developments related to the emergence of superpowered individuals throughout history.

If you haven’t already, take a look at the ‘Miracleman’ comics. They really illustrate how major societal changes could unfold with superpowered individuals. Also, you could find ‘Watchmen’ a great source for ideas on alternate realities with superheroes and their impact on society.
For some audio options, the ‘Super Powereds’ series by Drew Hayes covers kids with powers going through a superhero college and another series about adults doing heroic acts in the corporate world. There’s also the ‘Grimnoir Chronicles’ which tackles similar themes but with a unique twist. These books address the societal impacts of powers really well!
I love the ‘Grimnoir Chronicles’! They do a great job showcasing how superpowers can ripple through society.
You might want to check out the ‘Godlike’ RPG, which dives into an alternate history where superheroes play a role in WWII. There’s also the ‘Trinity Continuum: Aberrant’ which explores how superpowers become public in the early 21st century, showing how society might evolve differently with these new dynamics. Additionally, the ‘Wild Cards’ collection edited by George RR Martin offers various takes on how powers could have affected historical events. It’s pretty intriguing!
Absolutely, ‘Watchmen’ does a fantastic job of reflecting societal change through the lens of superheroes!
