Hey folks! I’ve got a free weekend coming up and feel like reliving my teenage gamer days by pulling an all-nighter with some awesome games. I’m on the hunt for story-driven RPGs, whether they be SRPGs or JRPGs, with solid party mechanics since I love teaming up with friends. Ideally, I’d like something that hooks me right away and isn’t afraid to challenge me a bit. I’ve played a lot of the classics, so feel free to throw in some indie or niche titles too. Just so you know, I’m playing on PS5. Here are some of my all-time favorites to help guide your suggestions:
– Dragon Age Series
– Baldur’s Gate Series
– Mass Effect Series
– Fire Emblem Series
– Persona Series
– Various Final Fantasy titles
– Yakuza Series
– Legend of Heroes Series

Check out the ‘Xenoblade’ series! It’s fantastic and has great storytelling and gameplay. Also, ‘Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology’ is another one worth playing!
Definitely give ‘Dragon’s Dogma’ a go! If you’ve enjoyed Baldur’s Gate, you’ll probably love ‘Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2’ and ‘Avowed’ too. A lot of people rave about ‘Divinity: Original Sin’ as well, but I get that it’s not for everyone. If you’re into something indie and a bit old-school, check out ‘SKALD: Against the Dark Priory.’ It’s pretty unique!
Have you checked out ‘Metaphor: Refantazio’? If you liked Persona, it’s a solid choice! Also, ‘Octopath Traveler 2’ is a big step up from the first game and totally standalone. Don’t forget about ‘Dragon Quest XI’—it’s a fan favorite! Oh, and I’ve been hearing great things about ‘Unicorn Overlord,’ even though I’m not sure how story-focused it is. For a classic CRPG experience, ‘Wasteland 3’ is worth a shot!
You should definitely play ‘Grandia!’ It’s a classic that has a great story and fun gameplay.
If you haven’t tried ‘KOTOR 1 and 2’, you’ve got to download them ASAP! They’re game-changers for RPGs. Also, ‘Jade Empire’ is an absolute gem—it really stands out from other RPGs!
Thanks for the tips! I should’ve mentioned I’ve played the Divinity and PoE games, so I’m also caught up on a lot of those modern CRPGs. SKALD looks interesting, I’ll have to keep it in mind for when I get a PC!
