Looking for Story-Driven 2D RPGs Like Omori and Undertale

-

Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for some 2D RPGs that are heavily story-driven, similar to games like Omori, Undertale, Death Plate, One Shot, Hello Charlotte, and Yume Nikki. I really enjoy unconventional RPGs where combat isn’t the main focus but rather the narrative and emotional depth. Most of these games are usually made with RPG Maker, so if you have any recommendations in that vein or even adjacent titles, I’d love to hear them!

For something a bit different, try Torment, Disco Elysium, and also Pentiment! They’re not RPG Maker games, but they deliver amazing stories that might scratch that narrative itch you have.

I played Cabernet yesterday. It’s a bit buggy, but the story is a blast! It has a fully voiced narrative and similar vibes to Persona but without the combat. Totally worth trying, even with the quirks.

Not made with RPG Maker, but I think these could fit your taste: A Space for the Unbound, Coffee Talk, Valiant Heroes: The Great War, and the Opus games are all fantastic and have great narratives.

Thanks for the suggestions! A Space for the Unbound looks interesting, I’ll definitely check it out after I finish my current games!

You’ve got to check out Pentiment! It’s got a unique art style and a fantastic narrative that really drew me in. Definitely fits the bill for what you’re looking for.
