Looking for Single-Player Action Shooter Recommendations with Upgradable Weapons

-

Hey everyone! I’m really craving some single-player action shooters that feature upgradeable weapons, linear worlds, and awesome art direction. I miss the vibes of classics like Bioshock, Ratchet and Clank, and Resident Evil 4, but I’ve played through them a ton. I don’t mind older titles as long as they’re available on PS5, Switch, or PC. My main focus is really on upgrading the weapons, as I love the feeling of taking them to the next level with new features and attachments. Any suggestions?

You should try Control as well! The art direction is stunning and the gameplay is very engaging, featuring lots of upgrades throughout.

Control’s world design is phenomenal; it really pulls you into the narrative.

Can’t go wrong with Control! Just watch out for its unique gameplay style; it’s not your typical shooter.

MetroMaster_22 -

The Metro series has got you covered! Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light both fit your criteria perfectly with their linear gameplay and weapon upgrades. Metro Exodus is a little more open-world but still offers a great experience if you’re interested.

Metro Exodus still leans on linearity despite being more open. Just watch out for the level design as it can get a bit twisty!

These games deliver an incredible atmosphere! It’s so rewarding when you manage to survive through all the dangers and finally reach a safe haven.

Check out Prey and the Dishonored series! They both offer unique experiences with some fun weapon upgrades, although Dishonored leans more on the stealth side than pure action shooting.

C0vert_Assassin -

Definitely agree on Prey; it’s a fantastic game! The mechanics and upgrades work really well together.

StealthNinja_07 -

The first Dishonored is a classic! Each level feels like a mini masterpiece. The sequel is good but the first just had that special feel to it.

You might also like Outer Worlds! While it’s not completely linear, it’s structured similarly to older Bioware games with specific zones that have quests. The weapon upgrade system is really satisfying too, especially when you get your loadout just right.

GalacticRanger_187 -

I just finished Outer Worlds last week, and it’s super satisfying to max out your engineering skills for those upgrades!

UpgradeGuru_22 -

Exactly! Once you get into a rhythm with your upgrades, you can just sit back and enjoy the game without constantly switching gear.

You should definitely check out Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal! Both games have fantastic weapon upgrades that make you feel like an absolute badass. The upgrade system is super satisfying, even if I didn’t fully utilize it until later in Eternal, the difference is night and day.

DoomL0ver_99 -

I just replayed Doom 2016 and it’s pure perfection. It really nails the action and gameplay style without getting overly complicated.

Totally agree! Those weapon upgrades are like candy for the player. Makes the combat feel so much more dynamic.
