Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the classic Silent Hill series and just wrapped up *Silent Hill 2*. I want to take a little break before continuing with it so I don’t rush through the rest of the games. During this downtime, I’m on the lookout for some good game recommendations. I’m specifically after a story-driven game, but I really want to avoid those AAA titles with massive 50-hour campaigns and endless narrative branches.
I’ve browsed through Steam and found that most options either lean towards cozy, open-ended games like *Stardew Valley*, which feel more like hobbies, or very minimalist games like *Rain World* and *Hollow Knight*. While those are cool, they don’t really suit what I’m in the mood for right now. Many story games I’ve encountered are big productions like *Baldur’s Gate*, *Elden Ring*, or *Cyberpunk*, which isn’t what I want at this moment either.
What I’m really looking for is a game with a straightforward story that isn’t too shallow. Something with a linear progression and maybe some puzzles would be great! I don’t mind if it’s an older title, but I’m open to modern ones if they fit the bill. For example, I would be into *Papers, Please*, but I’ve already played that one. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out *Fruit of Grisaia*. It’s a visual novel with a pretty engaging story and is more on the relaxed side. Not super long, either!
I get what you’re looking for! The *Uncharted* series is a solid choice; each game wraps up in about 8-10 hours with straightforward storytelling and basic puzzles. If you haven’t played the *Portal* games yet, they start light on the story but pick up nicely as you go. Oh, and if you’re into JRPGs, give *Chrono Trigger* a shot—around 20 hours for the main story and it has a good depth without being overwhelming!
Don’t overlook the *Prince of Persia: Sands of Time* trilogy! Those are some of my favorite shorter story games. Also, the *Fable* series is pretty fun and has a good mix of story and gameplay. I find myself revisiting those games every few years!
You’ve just reminded me about *Prince of Persia: Sands of Time*! I played it as a kid, and it was awesome—I’ll definitely have to check that out again.
Thanks for the suggestion! I will give *Chrono Trigger* a try; I’ve heard great things about it. I’ve played all the *Portal* games already, but *Uncharted* sounds like it’s right up my alley.
