I’ve been on a mission to cut out mindless scrolling on social media this year, and I’m now on the hunt for video games that can take its place! I’m looking for games that are easy to pick up and play but still require a bit of thought and engagement. I want something that leaves me feeling refreshed and relaxed instead of guilty and drained, like scrolling usually does. I’m open to any platform that’s handheld or can be emulated on one, including my Steam Deck, Switch, and a bunch of retro handhelds starting from GBA.

You might wanna check out Riders Republic or the Forza games. They have tons of activities and races if you want to engage with them, but you can also just cruise around and enjoy the scenery without it feeling overwhelming.
I highly recommend trying out Picross! It’s a puzzle game that’s simple to engage with but really gets your brain working without being too intense.
If you’re on the Steam Deck, Shogun Showdown is a great choice. It’s strategic but doesn’t require you to think non-stop, so it fits your needs well.
Distance is an awesome pick! It combines racing and platforming in a unique way, and you can take it at your own pace. Just dive into the world without needing to stress about competition.
Sea of Stars and the Octopath Traveler games (both 1 and 2) are fantastic for their engaging storylines and beautiful visuals. They’re not super taxing, and you can play them casually. Also, any of the Lego games are fun and light-hearted, making them perfect for quick gaming breaks.
