Hey everyone! I’m diving back into JRPGs after a long break; I mostly missed out since the PS1 days. Over the past year, I’ve rekindled my love for the genre and I’m totally addicted. My main gaming platform is PC, so I’m on the hunt for suggestions that are available there. I’m eager to find challenging JRPGs—especially those with adjustable difficulty settings or optional hard content. I’m particularly interested in newer titles or remakes. Recently, I enjoyed games like Metaphor: ReFantazio for its great combat mechanics, Persona 5 for its story and characters, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for its fresh battle system and challenge. Up next on my list are Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 4 Golden. If you have any JRPG recommendations that fit this vibe, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

All the games you mentioned for your next playthrough are awesome! I’d add Shin Megami Tensei to the list as well—it’s another Atlus game like Persona but brings a tougher challenge. SMT V: Vengeance is available on PC, and if you enjoy action JRPGs, the Tales series and Kingdom Hearts are fantastic choices with difficulty settings and engaging post-game content. Tales of Vesperia, Graces F, and Tales of Arise are all modern titles worth your time!
You should definitely check out Dragon Quest XI, Trails in the Sky, and Octopath Traveler 1 & 2. They all have solid combat systems and engaging storylines. Dragon Quest has that charm, and Octopath Traveler’s art style is beautiful!
I’ve heard good things about Dragon Quest—excited to give them a shot. Octopath does have a nostalgic art style, which I love!
If you’re up for something a little different, the SaGa series is really fun! You might enjoy Romancing SaGa 2; it seems to match your tastes well. Just be aware that it can get a bit weird at times!
Any specific SaGa games you would recommend? I’m intrigued by Romancing SaGa 2!
You should check out Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven—it’s perfect for what you’re looking for! It’s got a great challenge and a unique vibe. Plus, if you haven’t tried it already, it’s a blast!
Looks promising! Can you play the second game without additional context from the first one?
I’ve been meaning to get into SMT, but I thought it might be too hardcore for me. Now I’m really considering it!
