Looking for Non-Terrifying VR Survival Games

-

I’m a big fan of survival shooters, especially games like Into the Radius, but I find them too scary to actually enjoy. Even The Forest is a bit much for me with all the cannibalism and mutations. I’ve also tried Vivecraft, but for some reason, I can’t get it to run smoothly on my powerful PC (with a 4070 and 5600x); it’s stuck at 24 FPS and has major stutters, whether I use shaders or not. I’m really hoping to find some VR survival games that don’t have the horror element or maybe get some tips on fixing my Vivecraft setup. Any recommendations?

Just a tip, if you’re having trouble with Vivecraft, try lowering the draw distance. Even a powerful PC can lag if it’s set too high!

I’ve checked my settings, but even at low chunks, it’s unplayable now. I used to get great performance on a 3060!

Into the Radius can be daunting at first, but as you play more, it becomes less scary and more about strategy. I threw myself into scary missions early on to get over the fear. Also, Into the Radius 2 is in early access now and claims to be less scary! You might want to grab it on sale and wait for the updates.

Have you tried Subnautica? It has its scary moments, especially when diving deeper, but it’s an incredible VR experience overall!

ScubaSteve77 -

Yeah, Subnautica can be nerve-wracking—especially in the late game when you need to go really deep!

I felt the same way! It definitely has its scary bits, but it’s worth it for the exploration.

I’ve heard Cyube is a fun option, though it’s a bit older. If you’re into Minecraft-style games, it might be a good fit for you!

You can actually play The Forest with the cannibals turned off, making it pretty chill—it’s referred to as ‘Vegan Mode’. Just check the main menu for that option!

HappyCamper55 -

That’s pretty clever! A camping simulator could be fun without the horror.

ChillDude94 -

Haha, vegan mode? That sounds hilarious, I might just have to try that!

If you’re looking for something a bit friendlier, Valheim has unofficial PCVR support. Just keep in mind, you might still encounter some giant trolls and spooky ghosts!

I definitely recommend Valheim! It’s super fun, even if it’s a bit intense at times.
