Hey fellow Helldivers! I’m pretty new to the game and just posted about some tips for newbies. Now I’m on the hunt for movies, series, or books that really nail that Helldivers vibe. I recently watched an episode from Amazon’s Secret Level and it was pretty cool. I’m looking for anything similar or even better that can make playing Helldivers even more of a blast. Got any recommendations? Thanks a ton!

Starship Troopers is where it’s at! It’s basically the main media inspiration behind Helldivers. If you’re up for some reading, check out Desert Raiders, a Warhammer 40K novel. It’s all about soldiers dealing with a giant buggy alien threat on a deserted planet, similar to what happens in Helldivers with the Tyranids. Strap in for some action!
Absolutely gotta mention Starship Troopers as the go-to for Helldivers vibes. But if you’re into anime, I recommend Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Genocidal Organ. They’re both really intense though, so heads up! Jin Roh delves into themes of blind obedience to a fascist government, while Genocidal Organ involves drop pod assaults, similar to the game’s aesthetic. Both are darker than Helldivers’ satirical tone, but definitely worth a watch for some deep vibes!
Depends on what vibe you’re after—battle-hardened troops getting dropped from orbit or dealing with the manipulative tactics of a dystopian government? For the former, Starship Troopers hits the spot. If it’s the dictatorship angle you’re interested in, maybe explore dystopian sci-fi stories that dig into those heavy themes.
Thinking about the foes you face, movies like Terminator and War of the Worlds come to mind. Just like the Starship Troopers vibe, these films have that kind of hostile world-ending alien theme going on. Perfect mood-setters for diving back into Helldivers!
Those anime picks sound rad! It’s cool when different styles tap into similar themes. Definitely adding those to my watch list!
