Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for JRPGs that really dig into a strong mystery element, similar to the Xeno series like Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade Chronicles. What I’ve loved about these games is how they weave subtle foreshadowing into their narratives. It’s not about the mystery being the main plot, but rather having it blend seamlessly throughout the story, revealing layers upon layers as you progress.
For example, in Xenogears, there are moments that hint at deeper truths, like the character Id’s appearances and his relation to Fei. This kind of storytelling keeps you engaged and wanting to re-experience it to catch all the clues you might have missed the first time.
So, I’m wondering, do other JRPGs feature a similar immersive mystery element? Also, I prefer titles available on Switch or PC (Steam), but I’m open to suggestions from other platforms. Thanks!

The **NieR** series is a great fit for what you’re looking for! While you mentioned experiencing some burnout with *NieR: Automata*, it has a lot of depth and repeating routes, which add to the intrigue. And if you haven’t yet, *NieR: Replicant* could be a solid alternative too, despite the route structure.
Definitely consider giving them another shot. The storytelling is quite unique!
Don’t forget about **Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society**! It keeps you in the dark for a long time and gradually unravels mysteries. It’s a great addition to your list.
Totally second this! It’s a fantastic mystery-filled RPG.
That one sounds exciting! I love when games keep you guessing.
For something a bit different, try **Expedition 33**. It’s full of mystery elements, and while it’s not technically a JRPG, it captures the essence beautifully. Plus, it’s available on PC!
I’ve played *Expedition 33*—the twists are mind-bending! Definitely fits the bill.
Sounds intriguing! I’ll add it to my list for sure!
You should check out **Persona 4**—it’s essentially a murder mystery wrapped in an RPG. The way it reveals secrets and connections keeps things interesting throughout the story.
*Persona 4* is a classic! The mystery elements are really well done.
Yeah, the suspense definitely adds to the gameplay, making it engaging!
You should definitely check out **13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim**. It’s packed with mysteries set in a sci-fi backdrop, and the story unfolds in layers that keep you guessing. Just a heads up, though, it does have a lot of cutscenes, but if you’re cool with that, it’s a fantastic experience!
I can handle a good number of cutscenes as long as they’re engaging, so I might give it a shot!
Actually, it’s not just cutscenes! It’s more balanced with battles and exploration too. Worth a look!
I’ve heard mixed feelings about the route system, so I’ll have to think about it more. Thanks for the tips!
