Looking for GPU Upgrade Ideas from My RTX 2070

-

My RTX 2070 seems to be on its last legs, and I need to find a suitable upgrade for 1440p gaming at high settings. My budget is a bit tight since this is an unexpected expense, and my PSU only has 8-pin and 6-pin connectors, so I prefer not to replace it right now. Here are some GPUs I’m considering: RTX 3060 Ti GAMING OC PRO 8G, AORUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti MASTER 8G, AORUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Elite 8G, AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming OC 8G, and Asus ROG Strix Geforce RTX 3060 12G V2. I’d love any input on what might be the best choice! My current specs are an i5-11600 CPU, ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero motherboard, Corsair Dominator 2×8 GB 3200MHz RAM, and Corsair RM650x PSU.

If you’re sticking with your current PSU, you should definitely consider the 5060 Ti or 9060 XT. That being said, you should really think about upgrading your PSU if you want to unlock better options like the 3080 or 6800 XT later on. They’re worth the investment for solid future-proofing.

I don’t think any of those options are really worth it. The 3060 with 12GB is comparable to the 2070. If you can find a good deal on an AMD 6700 XT or even a used RTX 3080, those are your best bets for a real upgrade without needing to spend too much. Newer games really eat up VRAM, so 8GB might not cut it anymore, even at 1080p.

Honestly, I wouldn’t go for anything less than a 3060 Ti. The 2080 might outperform it in specific cases, but it’s using older technology. If you’re looking at the 3060 with 12GB, just keep in mind it’s pretty much on par with your 2070 in terms of performance, but the extra VRAM could help at 1440p. If you can, go for the cheaper version of the 3060 Ti if money’s a concern.

It all depends on your budget. If you’re aiming for around $250-300, keep an eye out for a 6750 XT. Trust me, in 2025, you’ll be glad you have more VRAM!

Thanks for the advice! I’m really leaning towards the 5060 Ti. I’ve heard mixed reviews, though, especially about the “fake frames” issue. Do you think the 4060 Ti would be a worthwhile upgrade instead?

You might want to look at newer options like the 5060 Ti and AMD’s 9060 XT. They have low power requirements, only need one 8-pin connector, and can easily handle 1440p gaming on high settings. Plus, you should shoot for the 16GB versions for that extra buffer.
