I’m planning to get my husband a Steam Deck for his birthday since he’s mentioned wanting one a couple of times. The prices have dropped a bit since the launch, and I’m curious if it would be a good gift. He mainly plays World of Warcraft and a few other games on Steam. If it is a good idea, could someone help me figure out which model I should aim for regarding storage and specs? I’m not too tech-savvy, so any insight would be great!

As a WoW player with a Deck, I actually find I play it less frequently. WoW requires a lot of time and focus, and I wouldn’t use it for serious gameplay unless I was away. You might want to consider how many Steam games he actually plays and whether those are compatible with the Deck. If he’s seriously interested, he probably has a model in mind. Personally, I recommend the 1T OLED model if you’re leaning toward it!
It really depends on what types of games he enjoys! If he leans toward AAA titles with high graphics, the more expensive model is definitely a good call. It has better storage and graphics performance. I’ve got one myself, and I’ve even seen folks playing WoW on it!
I own a Steam Deck and play WoW on it too. It runs smoothly, but you might face a bit of a learning curve with the controls. Setting it up is pretty easy if you follow a good guide. Just keep in mind that WoW takes up a lot of storage, especially if he plans to install other games as well. Overall, it’s a fantastic device for gaming and even retro emulation!
I picked up a Steam Deck to game next to my wife while she draws. It’s awesome! But just a heads-up, I found using it for WoW to be a hassle, especially with addons, so I mostly stick to other games. Just thought I’d mention it!
I’d say about 80% of his games are on Steam. He was curious when it came out, but with a couple of moves, he hasn’t had a chance to dive back into it. I thought the Deck might be great for travel and to hang out together while gaming.
