I’ve just wrapped up Banner Saga 1, and I thoroughly enjoyed its captivating story and rich characters. I’m on the hunt for similar games that promise an engaging narrative, strategic combat, and a dash of RPG elements that make every decision feel crucial. Systems don’t matter much to me, but I don’t have access to an Xbox. Any recommendations that might fill the void left by Banner Saga as I dive into its sequels?

Cyber Knights: Flashpoint could be up your alley. It’s got that blend of tactical gameplay and a narrative where actions have consequences, set in a cyberpunk heist setting. Like XCOM meets Fire Emblem but with hacking and sneaking around.
Check out Darkest Dungeon. It’s got a gripping narrative tied into tactical gameplay, where you feel the threat and that same sense of character risk you loved in Banner Saga.
If you’re into JRPGs, give Yggdra Union a shot. It’s got that Fire Emblem vibe with a unique combat system. For a bit more story depth, Soul Nomad is a solid pick. It’s a bit easier but delivers a fantastic tale. Similar to those are Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and the Disgaea series, though they lean more towards Final Fantasy Tactics gameplay-wise.
You might want to try Vestaria Saga. It’s got a similar feel to Fire Emblem with its tactical gameplay and immersive story. Alternatively, Ash of Gods: Redemption is another option that’s like Banner Saga, providing that same tense decision-making atmosphere.
Another one to consider is Warhammer 40k Mechanicus. Although the story might not hit the same emotional beats, the tactical gameplay is top-notch and the soundtrack is just incredible. Ash of Gods: Redemption and Showgunners are also worth considering for their strategic gameplay and engaging storylines.
