Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for games that offer extensive build options. I’ve noticed that many suggestions only scratch the surface – wide playstyles but shallow mechanics. I crave something where I can dive deep for hours, exploring tons of build choices and details until my head spins! I really want a game that allows for 40+ skills or abilities within a single build, as opposed to just a handful of surface-level options.
I read a lot of Progression Fantasy and LitRPGs where characters keep evolving and gaining new skills even late into the story, and that’s what I’m hoping to find in a game. I’m open to any genre, whether it’s rogue-like, 4X strategy, story-driven RPGs, time management, or simulation games. The only genre I’m not too fond of is FPS, but I’m willing to give something a shot if it meets my criteria. I’ve enjoyed games like Rift Wizard, but I’ve played it to death. Any suggestions would be super appreciated!

Apart from Rift Wizard, you might explore Tale of Immortal, Spellmasons, and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous for detailed builds. Also, Divinity Original Sin 2 has plenty of depth. I’ve played through Noita a couple of times, which is fun for build experimentation as well.
Check out 40k Rogue Trader. It has 56 levels and a good chunk of them focus on talent and ability choices. Also, Battletech with the BTAU mod adds a lot of depth in equipment and mech loadouts if you’re into that sort of thing. Rogue-like options like Path of Achra and Cogmind are worth looking at as well!
If you haven’t tried Unicorn Overlord, I think you should give it a shot! The story isn’t great, but the gameplay is super fun, with tons of customization options for your squads. You keep unlocking new abilities as you progress too! Have you played Caves of Qud yet?
You might want to check out Wantless: Solace at World’s End. It seems to have some cool mechanics where you can craft your own skills! Have you tried it yet?
I’m looking into it now! It sounds interesting since it lets you customize skills. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks! I’ve heard of Battletech but haven’t tried it yet. I’ll definitely check these out!
