I’ve been gaming in online worlds and MMORPGs for ages, but I’m searching for something fresh and intriguing. VRChat was interesting, but the technical complications and VR sickness were big hurdles for me. I’m hoping to find a multiplayer game that attracts a predominantly adult audience, with a lively and creative community. Think weird and quirky, like chatting with a talking milk carton in a virtual space. I’ve tried virtual worlds like Second Life and IMVU, but they’re not as vibrant anymore. Any recommendations? I’d love to hear your wildest ideas!

Yeah, GMod is a great one for random encounters and creativity! I totally forgot about it myself until someone mentioned it. It’s worth giving another shot, especially if you liked it before.
You should check out No Man’s Sky. It’s this awesome, VR-compatible space exploration game with multiplayer functions. Since updates fixed loads of issues, it’s become a much better experience. While it might not satisfy all your chatting needs, it’s a beautiful game worth a peek.
Pretty much all the large free-to-play games become overrun by kids because they’re so accessible. Honestly, it’s a recurring issue, but if you find something like what you’re describing, definitely let us know. It’s rare to find an adult-only vibe in online spaces.
If you’re into older games, you might consider trying GMod again. Back in the day, I found great servers by randomly joining maps and messing around in sandbox mode. I found some solid friends there, and we explored all kinds of weird stuff together.
