My buddy is currently deployed in the Middle East, and he’s been facing some serious internet issues out there. I’m trying to find a fun game that we can enjoy together without having to deal with too much lag. We had high hopes for Monster Hunter, but it’s been causing a ton of grief due to connectivity problems. Right now, I’m considering Baldur’s Gate 3 since it’s turn-based, but I’m open to exploring other options. Ideally, I’m looking for games that can handle occasional spikes in latency, whether they’re turn-based or open-world. We can manage to stay in the lobby, but we just can’t coordinate during missions. Any suggestions would be great!

The Worms series is pretty entertaining and not heavily affected by lag, so that could be worth considering. Turn-based multiplayer games in general tend to be more forgiving with connection dips.
How about trying some classic games like Chess or Civ? Digital board games such as Wingspan or Root can also be fun, and they have tons of options on Board Game Arena that won’t lag too much.
Dune Imperium might be a good pick too!
