I’m really into the idea of creating new games for older consoles, but I’m not quite sure which hacks or homebrews out there are worth playing. What are some recommendations for good ones?

To give you some solid suggestions, it would help to know what kinds of games you enjoy. For example, you’d probably not want to try a platformer like “Banjo Kazooie: The Jiggies of Time” if you’re not into that genre. What do you think?
If you enjoy Castlevania, consider trying the “Castlevania II Retranslation” hack. It fixes the confusing translation issues of the original and adds lots of quality of life features, making the game so much more enjoyable!
You might want to check out “Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland” for the NES. It’s a new game that feels like a mix of “Super Mario Bros. 2” and “Mega Man 2″—not exactly traditional homebrew, but really fun!
For older consoles, you could check out some homebrews like “Wall Jump Ninja” for the Atari 2600, or “Baby Pac-Man” for the Atari 7800. They’re both pretty cool and offer a unique twist on classic gameplay!
Sorry about that! To clarify, I love platformers, Metroidvanias, and RPGs.
