Looking for FPS games like Left 4 Dead 2 that make me feel powerful but chill

-

Hey everyone! I’m hunting for a first-person shooter that gives me that epic, god-like vibe Left 4 Dead 2 did, but without being too complicated or stressful. I tried Doom, but the skill level here is crazy and it wasn’t relaxing. I have a PS5 and a Switch right now, and soon I’ll be getting a gaming laptop with an RTX 4070, so platform suggestions are open.

I usually enjoy games with great stories and solid gameplay, or sim racing sometimes. Recently, I loved the God of War sequels, Horizon games, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, and some roguelikes like Hades. Days Gone was too much stress, Soul games scare me, and I’m not big on multiplayer since I’m usually outmatched and don’t have loads of time.

I also have ADHD, so I prefer games with straightforward movement and mechanics. Jedi Survivor would’ve been my all-time fave if it wasn’t for puzzles and too much exploration. I don’t mind looking up tutorials though.

If you know any FPS games that are easy to get into but still make me feel powerful and are not too complex, especially anyone similar to L4D2 or that vibe, I’d really appreciate your suggestions! Thanks in advance!

You should definitely check out Darktide. It’s basically the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead 2 but set in the Warhammer 40k universe. It has that horde survival feel where you face waves of enemies with some melee and ranged combat mixed in. The game also has a director system that controls enemy spawns to keep things intense but fun. It’s a solid pick if you want something familiar but fresh.

That sounds perfect! Also a big 40k fan so win-win. I was worried because I’d heard Warhammer games can be hit or miss but this looks great. Definitely going to watch gameplay now and consider buying.

Vermintide 2 is another great one to look at if you like that coop, melee-heavy horde brawler style. It’s set in a fantasy Warhammer world with rat-men instead of zombies, which is a nice twist. The combat leans more on swords and melee weapons but there’s ranged stuff too. It won’t be exactly like L4D2 but it scratches that same itch well.

Back 4 Blood is basically modern Left 4 Dead with an added card system for customizing your builds. It has a similar vibe of fighting through hordes and feeling super badass. Killing Floor 2 is another solid pick if you want waves of enemies and a simple, satisfying shooter loop. Both good for solo or coop with bots if you want to avoid intense multiplayer.

Since you have a PS5 and Switch now, some specific notes: Left 4 Dead 2 isn’t on those platforms, sadly, but both Darktide and Vermintide 2 are PC-focused. Helldivers 2 is planned for consoles and looks like a chill yet rewarding shooter. Also, Space Marine 2 is a Warhammer 40k shooter mixing melee and gunplay, and might give you that godlike combat feeling you want. If you’re a 40k fan, it’s worth checking out for sure!

If you want to stay in the FPS looter-shooter realm but still feel powerful, Roboquest is a roguelike influenced by Doom and Borderlands. It’s got fast-paced shooting and loot, but it’s way less demanding than some other shooters. Also, for picking up the vibe of zombie-slaying solo or coop, Helldivers 2 is coming soon and looks super promising for that ‘feel like a god’ moment while still being fun and straightforward.
