I’m a big fan of classic CRPGs like Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity, especially ones with rich, complex narratives and well-developed worlds. I’ve also tried Obsidian’s Avowed, which has a nice feel but somehow lacks a bit of that classic RPG depth. Can anyone recommend similar games that really capture that strong RPG flavor?

A few RPGs that might surprise you: Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 are highly praised for their story and gameplay, plus Dragon Age: Origins, even if a bit older, still offers a rich narrative and great replay value especially with mods. Kotor 1 and 2 also have immersive stories and characters if you’re into Star Wars settings.
If you like narrative-heavy RPGs, Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous by Owlcat Games are fantastic picks. They have a ton of worldbuilding and tactical combat, hitting that classic CRPG feel. Also, Disco Elysium is amazing if you don’t mind skipping combat and focusing purely on story and character development.
You can’t go wrong with Baldur’s Gate 3! It’s getting heaps of new content soon, including a bunch of subclasses, making it one of the best modern CRPG experiences that really nails deep storytelling and gameplay.
Don’t forget to check out the classics like Fallout 1 and 2 if you haven’t already. They’re old school but still packed with meaningful choices and a cool post-apocalyptic setting. Also, Wasteland 2 and 3 are newer tactical RPGs that capture this vibe well.
If you want something a little different but still classic, give Neverwinter Nights 1 or Parasite Eve a shot. They have that old-school cinematic RPG vibe. Also, don’t overlook Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader if you like the genre and want a darker sci-fi take.
I’ve seen Divinity being praised a lot. Might give it a try then!
