Hey everyone! I’ve been on the hunt for real-time strategy (RTS) games that allow pausing while still commanding units. I used to love RTS games, but these days they often overwhelm me and cause a lot of stress. I’m specifically looking for titles where I can hit pause, plan my next moves, and then execute them without the pressure of real-time action. I vaguely remember some older games from the ’90s that may have had this feature, like Earth 2160 or maybe Dark Reign, but I’m not completely sure. Multiplayer isn’t a concern for me; I’m just interested in enjoying the campaign and skirmish modes. Any suggestions?

You might also check out “They Are Billions.” It’s a survival RTS where pausing is essential to plan against hordes of enemies. It’s challenging but a lot of fun!
It’s an awesome game, but it can definitely get intense despite the pause feature.
How about “Company of Heroes 3”? It has a neat feature where you can pause during single-player. It’s tactical, and you can queue orders for a more relaxed play style!
That’s a solid choice! Love the way it feels more focused on strategy than just action.
I completely agree. It’s one of the best RTS games with tactical depth.
The Total War series is perfect for this! Both Napoleon and Empire are my favorites, especially because you can pause and plot your strategy during battles. The ability to manage your units is great for those chill gaming sessions.
I’d pay a fortune for Napoleon’s gameplay with the campaign map from Empire, they’re both so good!
Total War is solid! I also loved Warhammer 2—a great blend of real-time and turn-based elements.
Consider Supreme Commander! It allows for complex commands during pauses, which is great for setting up your strategy. Zero-K is a similar alternative that also has a pause feature.
Yup! I love how you can plan out intricate strategies while paused.
Exactly! Can’t wait to dive back into it—great mechanics!
If you’re open to games that mix genres, you should try FTL. It’s not a traditional RTS, but it requires pausing to efficiently command your spaceship during battles. Definitely gives that strategic feel without the stress of typical RTS games.
I’ve had my fair share of fun with FTL! I thought everyone was super smart when I discovered you could issue commands while paused.
Yeah, it took me a while to realize I could pause, but it changes the whole game for the better!
You could also look into Age of Empires; it allows you to pause and queue commands. It’s a classic that still holds up well!
Yes! Age of Empires is classic and has a great balance between strategy and action.
Plus, it’s one of those games where you can really take your time to think things through.
Totally agree! It’s tough but rewarding. Just be prepared for some nail-biting moments!
