I’ve been searching for an app on iOS or Android that lets me keep a detailed journal while I game. Ideally, it would let me write my own notes and track various in-game details across different games, especially RPGs, which I play the most. I’m hoping for something more customized than just a generic notes app or Notion since those don’t really fit how I want to organize my gameplay sessions. I’ve seen apps like Shattered Ring for Elden Ring, but I want something that works for multiple games or can adapt per game. It would be amazing if the app supports voice dictation via a shortcut or widget from the lock or home screen so I can quickly speak notes without pausing play. Has anyone come across something like this?

Honestly, sometimes the simplest solution is just pen and paper. No setup needed, infinite customization, and you can scribble or diagram whatever you want on the spot. But I get wanting something digital to sync across devices and add voice notes.
I’ve actually been using Google Sheets for this kind of thing. I set up tabs for each console and have columns for whether I’ve finished a game, gave up, or just jot down my thoughts. It’s flexible enough to tweak as I go, though it isn’t tailored specifically for taking quick session notes.
If you mainly play on Steam, their notes feature is pretty handy — just Alt+Tab and add reminders or things to do next session. However, since you’re gaming across multiple devices like Switch and streaming to your TV, that probably isn’t flexible enough for you.
Yeah, I’ve been using Steam notes a bit, but jumping between platforms means I need something more portable and accessible on mobile devices all the time.
You might want to check out GameTrack, available on both iOS and Android. It lets you keep track of games and add notes. While it’s mostly for tracking collections, it does have some note-taking features. If you want a journal focused app with voice input, the Journey journal app supports voice dictation and could work for your needs. Also, OneNote allows for customizable templates which might help you set up something game-specific with dictation support.
Thanks! I’ve seen a few mentions of apps like that but I’m really looking for play session organization so I can jump back into a game after a few days without losing track. Sheets feel a bit too broad for that purpose.
