I’ve been out of the loop with war-themed first-person shooters for a while, but I used to love playing Operation Flashpoint because of its realistic gameplay. Now, I’m searching for a similar modern PC game (released in the last few years) where you play as one of many soldiers in a single player campaign. I’m looking for something that immerses you in a battlefield with plenty of AI soldiers, tanks, and vehicles around, allowing you to experience a long campaign while just trying to survive. Does anyone know if such a game exists?

If you’re into WWII stuff, Easy Red 2 is a solid option, similar to an improved version of Battlefield 1942. It’s fun, but just a heads up, the AI can be pretty rough around the edges.
Have you considered ‘Six Days in Fallujah’? I haven’t played it myself, but I’ve heard it might fit the bill for what you want.
You should definitely check out Arma 3! It has a lot of realistic elements and features missions where you can take over another soldier if the one you’re playing gets killed. It really captures that immersive military atmosphere you’re looking for.
