I’ve been told that the ISP equipment limits data per device on the network, so I’m in the market for a new modem. I considered the Netgear AC1900 (the VDSL version), supposedly compatible with AT&T according to an article I read, but the product listing says otherwise. If you’re in the US, I’m open to suggestions. We also have Spectrum available, but they often experience outages around here.

There might be some truth to third-party modems offering better performance compared to ISP-provided ones, as someone mentioned they noticed slower speeds while on their ISP’s modem. However, the bottleneck is generally on the ISP side, so switching modems may not solve the issue completely. Maybe try reaching out to AT&T to confirm what modems are truly compatible?
The limitation you’re experiencing likely comes from the ISP’s end, not your own home equipment. No modem or router will be able to get around those kinds of data caps or restrictions. It might be worth confirming with AT&T directly about compatible hardware that might offer better performance or other options they could provide.
