Hey everyone! My friends and I are looking to transition away from DnD and want to explore a more modern RPG system. We’re into things like using guns and engaging in intense scenarios like heists and espionage. I’d like something a bit more grounded and realistic, though, not too far-fetched like Fallout or Warhammer 40K RPGs. I’ve thought about Vampire: The Masquerade or other World of Darkness games, but the supernatural elements can sometimes be a hit or miss for us. We’re aiming for a setting that feels like it could realistically happen in the next 10-20 years, featuring elements like GMO super soldiers or government agents. Any recommendations for systems that fit this vibe? Also, I’ll probably be the DM, so a solid ruleset would be ideal!

You might want to check out Twilight 2000. It’s all about survival after a hypothetical WWIII, focusing on low-powered characters and realism. It’s gritty and harsh without any fantastical elements, making it perfect for a modern military RPG.
Just started reading it myself—can’t wait to try it out!
Delta Green might be right up your alley! It’s modern horror with grounded mechanics, and you get lots of espionage and intense scenarios. I’ve been running it and it fits perfectly for what you’re looking for—lots of potential for blowing stuff up while keeping a realistic tone.
100% agree! Delta Green really nails that balance between modern-day grit and horror.
This was my first thought too—it’s the best for these kinds of themes.
Twilight 2000 is excellent! I love how it’s tactical and really makes you feel like you’re in a dire situation.
