Looking for a Game with an Anime-Like Style and a Great Story—Suggestions?

-

Hey everyone, I’m on the hunt for a new game that has a wonderful story and possibly an anime style (or at least something close). I’ve got a list of favorites that might give you an idea of what I’m into: CrossCode for its action and humor, Sea of Stars for its classic charm, Haven for its chill vibe, Little Goody Two Shoes for its unique style, Cassette Beasts for its inventive take on monster collecting, and more. I’m really drawn to games with fantastic storytelling and characters that I can really connect with. Romance elements are a plus, but not a requirement. Any suggestions for a game with a fun and unique gameplay loop combined with an engaging plot and interesting visuals would be awesome. Thanks for any help you can offer, I’m itching for a new engaging experience!

Consider Dusk Diver or Your Turn to Die – Death Game by Majority-. Both have an appealing anime aesthetic and unique story elements that might intrigue you. Dusk Diver provides an enjoyable action combat experience, while Your Turn to Die adds a thrilling narrative with some Danganronpa vibes. Also, check out the visual novel ‘Our World is Ended’ if you’re into games with Persona-esque storytelling. They cover a range of styles and gameplay that should tick quite a few of your boxes.

Thanks! I’ll definitely have to dive deeper into these, especially ‘Your Turn to Die,’ seems like a wild ride with cool vibes!

Give ‘1000xResist’ a try. It’s a game that might align well with your interests if you’ve enjoyed the ones you listed, and it certainly has a striking story to dive into. Definitely a wildcard but possibly a hit for you!

Thanks for the reminder of ‘1000xResist’! I actually had my eye on it a while back, glad you brought it up!

If you’re into story-rich games, you can’t go wrong with Chrono Trigger! It might be older, but it’s a classic for a reason, with a superb story and a design that influenced many games after it. For something more modern but still great in narrative, try Trails of Cold Steel. Both are outstanding JRPGs that focus on storytelling in different styles.

Chrono Trigger is such a legendary title! Thanks for nudging it back onto my list. And I’ll explore Trails of Cold Steel too—it sounds promising!

If you’ve got a Switch, check out Xenoblade Chronicles. It’s known for its exceptional story and has a unique approach to gameplay, especially when compared to the standard JRPGs, so it might be right up your alley. It really stands out with its narrative and is a good pick if you’re looking to mix things up a bit.

Xenoblade Chronicles? I’ve heard some hype around that! Sounds like it’s about time my Switch got some love beyond just being a Bayonetta machine. Appreciate the suggestion!

Have you checked out Catherine? It’s a puzzle game from the creators of Persona, and it has a unique anime art style mixed with an intriguing narrative. For a more classic feel, you might enjoy Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, a puzzler with an engaging story. Another good pick is Xenoblade Chronicles for its epic story and gameplay.

Oh, Catherine’s been on my radar! Haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I’m definitely interested. Ghost Trick also seems intriguing—I’ll have to look into it more.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is an amazing pick and seems like a match for what you’re searching for. It’s got depth in story and character choices without overwhelming you. Also, think about digging into the Valkyria Chronicles series or even Nier: Automata, which is a fan favorite. Good mix of action, storytelling, and that anime flair you’re looking for!

Fire Emblem always felt like a mountain to climb, but maybe I’ll give Three Houses a shot as a starting point. And Nier Automata is a classic in my book! Thanks for the tips!

You might want to try out some classic RPGs like Dragon Quest, especially if you’re looking for something straightforward yet charming and fulfilling. ‘Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King’ is a good one if you’re into games that capture that nostalgic RPG magic without all the extras in JRPGs that sometimes feel like too much.

Dragon Quest sounds interesting! I’ve heard the name tossed around but never really dove in. Appreciate the straightforward recommendation!

Absolutely recommend the ‘Tales of’ series. They’re heavily story-driven with some romance aspects between characters, although you don’t usually make dialogue choices or have character-driven romances. Great entries to start with would be ‘Tales of the Abyss,’ ‘Tales of Arise,’ ‘Tales of Symphonia,’ and ‘Tales of Vesperia.’ They’re all separate in story, so no need to worry about playing them in a specific order!

I’ve only scratched the surface with the ‘Tales of’ games, so I’ll definitely keep those in mind! Symphonia sounds particularly appealing with its positive reviews.
