I’m in search of a tabletop RPG that’s similar to Traveller but set in a fantasy world since my players aren’t into sci-fi. I’ve looked into a few systems like Forbidden Lands, Worlds Without Number, and Blades in the Dark, but none seem to fit our needs perfectly. Here’s what I’m hoping to find in a game: a big sandbox environment where players have freedom of choice, a quick and not overly complicated combat system, a game that emphasizes trade and personal/political roleplaying in addition to combat and exploration, and ideally, some published adventures or campaigns for inspiration. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Check out ‘Sword of Cepheus’; it’s essentially Traveller but in a fantasy setting. The second edition was released just last year, and it seems to line up with your interests pretty well.
You might want to consider ‘Worlds Without Number’ too. Even if you don’t completely adopt the system, it has some fantastic tools for sandbox table generation.
Remember, a ‘sandbox’ style largely depends on how the GM runs the game. While it’s not a system per se, different games facilitate sandbox play to varying degrees. For example, Traveller has amazing resources for generating random planets, giving it that expansive, exploratory feel.
Have you thought about Hackmaster? It’s got a fun mix of chaotic gameplay, including a huge crit table and an honor system based on your character’s class and alignment. Plus, characters can die during creation, which adds a unique twist!
