I recently got to dive into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for four hours, thanks to my PsPlus Premium subscription. I’m kind of overwhelmed with everything there is to do! I’ve progressed to the point where I’m carrying flour sacks for this old lady and then got punished alongside Heinrich for some choices I made. I even told Hans he’s a spoiled brat, which made him leave—oops! Now it seems like I can wander freely and maybe gather info for a wedding or something. I feel like I’ve already missed a bunch of content because of how I approached it so far, but I’m really enjoying it! My question is, should I play the first game, KCD1, before continuing with this one, or is it not that crucial?

Hans always leaves, no matter what! Your choices just tweak some dialogue during the punishment. Once he’s gone, you’re free to explore. I suggest starting with the blacksmith and miller quests, plus finding Mutt and training with Tomcat—those will help you grasp the basic mechanics of the game.
Congrats on getting through the tutorial! Now the real game begins! There’s no wrong way to play, just think of it as a medieval life simulator and dive in. Playing KCD1 isn’t necessary, but it’s recommended. If you struggle with tough combat, try to gauge your gaming skills before jumping into KCD1 first. The combat can be really rough in both games!
You don’t need to play KCD1 since the prologue gives a decent overview of its key plot points. However, playing the first game adds a lot more depth to your experience. If you can snag it on sale, it’s definitely worth it!
The prologue in KCD2 does recap the story from KCD1 pretty well, so you’re fine if you skip it, but I’d still recommend playing KCD1. The character development from the start to the end in the first game really enhances the emotional impact of the sequel.
KCD2 is a direct sequel to KCD1, so I’d suggest getting KCD1. Going from one to the other was an amazing experience for me. Missing the first means you lose a lot of context for Henry’s character.
