Hey, I just jumped back into Destiny 2 after a long break since the Osiris DLC. I started a new character and played through some stuff in the latest DLC mission, but I don’t own any DLCs currently. I’m playing free-to-play and a bit lost on what to focus on next or what content I can access. What’s the best way to progress or enjoy the game without DLC right now?

Honestly, Destiny 2 is kinda a beast if you’re just free-to-play; there’s decent content but a lot is locked behind DLC paywalls. The core game lets you explore basic missions, but if you want to dive deep into the story, raids, or newer game modes like Gambit, buying some expansions will make a big difference. That said, the game often has sales that can get you lots of content for under $50 if you decide to go that route.
Heads up, the Witch Queen campaign is not free and needs to be purchased, but Beyond Light and Shadowkeep campaigns are free for everyone now. So if you’re seeing conflicting info, that’s why. Make sure to focus on the content truly available to you in the free-to-play version to avoid confusion. Still tons to enjoy without DLC though!
If you’re interested in grabbing DLC down the line, keep an eye out for sales. A lot of the older DLC packs (like Forsaken and Beyond Light) often go for just a few bucks each on platforms like Steam or Xbox. When I got back into Destiny 2, I snagged all the older content for around $15 total, which really expanded what I could do and made learning the new subclasses and mechanics way easier. In the meantime, grinding Vanguard strikes and doing the free content will help you get back into the flow.
Welcome back! Since you don’t have the DLCs, I’d recommend working through the free campaigns that are still available, like the Shadowkeep campaign and some of the more recent free ones. Also, you can jump into the free dungeons like Pit of Heresy or Prophecy, and the classic raids like Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, and King’s Fall, which are accessible without DLC. Don’t forget to try out the Vanguard strikes since those are also free. These will give you a good chunk of gameplay before needing to buy any expansions.
Thanks for the tips! Didn’t realize so much was still free, I’ll try those dungeons and raids first.
