Just Got a PS5! What Should I Know About PlayStation Plus?

-

Hey everyone! I just graduated and got a PS5 as a gift after not gaming for a while. I’ve got some questions about PlayStation Plus subscriptions since a lot has changed. I signed up for the Essential plan but saw options for upgrading to Extra and Premium. Firstly, what’s the deal with the upgrade option? If I switch to Extra, will I get access to play games that are usually restricted to that tier? And what about Premium? I noticed that some games, like Rainbow Six Siege, require it for streaming. Can someone explain the differences between accessing and streaming games? What’s included in each subscription, and is it worth upgrading from Essential? Any advice would be super helpful!

If you go for Extra, you’ll get access to lots of games, including Ratchet and Clank! You can’t actually own those games though; it’s like Netflix where the titles can rotate out. Just check the game catalog – if you see enough games you love, it’s worth the investment!

What if I just want to try a couple games? Should I just stick with Essential?

That could work! If you’re not a big gamer, you might find that Essentials covers your needs just fine.

Congrats on the new PS5! So here’s the breakdown:
– **PS Plus Essential**: This lets you play online and gives you three free games each month, but you only keep them as long as you’re subscribed.
– **PS Plus Extra**: It’s like Essential but gives you access to a huge library of PS4 and PS5 games that you can download and keep while subscribed.
– **PS Plus Premium**: This includes everything from Extra, plus access to classic titles from older consoles and the ability to stream PS3 games. If you like classic titles, Premium could be worth it!
Check out the game catalog to see if it fits your gaming style!

Thanks for the breakdown! Is it easy to switch between these tiers?

ShadowNinja_X -

Very easy! You can upgrade right from the PlayStation Store whenever you want.

Honestly, if you have a child or plan to game with friends, Extra is a solid choice! You get a ton of games and it’s nice not to constantly buy new ones. Plus, monthly free games help build a library fast!

Sounds like Extra is the way to go for me! Thanks for the recommendation!

MathGamer99 -

Exactly, just make sure you check what games get added each month.

With Premium, you can stream games, but it’s hit or miss depending on your internet. I find it generally smooth, but if streaming isn’t your jam, you might want to just go Extra. It’s all about what games you want to play regularly!

That makes sense! Is there a downside to streaming?

EpicQuestor -

Yeah, streaming can have lag issues, and you need a good internet connection. Downloading games is usually the better option.
