I’m new to PCs, and I’m currently using a 2018 HP laptop with an AMD E2-9000E Radeon R2 2C2G CPU. It’s really slow with just 4GB of RAM, and I’m considering upgrading to 8GB since that’s the maximum it can handle. I’m a broke college student, so I’m just trying to figure out if spending $50 on this RAM upgrade will actually make a difference. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you can swing it, go for the upgrade! It will definitely help, even if it’s not a miracle fix. Better than dealing with 4GB for sure!
I used to have 8GB on an older machine, and it was okay for basic tasks. But honestly, with your CPU, it might not be able to take full advantage of more than 8GB anyway, so it’s worth doing if that’s your only option.
Honestly, if that’s what you can afford, it’s better than nothing! But consider your storage too. If you’re running a hard disk drive (HDD), switch to a solid-state drive (SSD) if you can; that could make a massive difference in performance.
I think you’ll still feel some lag with 8GB, especially on Windows 10 or 11. If you’re looking for better performance, maybe try installing a lightweight Linux distribution instead.
Yes, adding 4GB to your existing 4GB to make 8GB will definitely speed things up, assuming you’re running a 64-bit operating system. If you’re on 32-bit, your system won’t utilize more than 4GB effectively. Just check if your model supports an 8GB stick!
I was going to replace the 4GB with an 8GB since it only takes one stick.
Yeah, I’m stuck with an HDD.
