Hey everyone! I’ve recently switched from Xbox to PC, and my Xbox Series X has barely been used since October. It works perfectly, and all the accessories are untouched. I’m thinking of trading it in at GameStop to get some credit toward buying a PS5 for my dad, upgrading him from his old PS4. The local GameStop said they’d offer up to $350 in store credit. But I’ve heard people often get lowballed on trade-ins there, so I’m worried about making the right choice. Also, I saw something about GameStop possibly offering more for new console trade-ins now. Since I’m new to selling consoles (usually only sold things at my part-time job before) and might be moving soon for a new job, I want the selling process to be smooth and quick. Would trading in at GameStop be the best option, or should I try selling it somewhere else to get better value? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, GameStop tends to give pretty low trade-in values. You’re probably better off selling the Xbox yourself if you want to get closer to its real worth. You could try listing it on local selling apps or websites to get cash instead of store credit, which is usually worth less compared to direct sale money.
Selling privately through local marketplaces (like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist) could get you around $350 or even more depending on demand where you live. It’s pretty straightforward and you’d get cash fast. Just be sure to follow safety tips when meeting buyers. It beats trading in for store credit, which almost always undervalues your console.
If you’re nervous about selling privately, there’s always the option to trade directly with someone wanting an Xbox Series X for a PS5 or cash. Sometimes people are open to console swaps, which might get you a better deal than GameStop’s credit. Just make sure to meet in a safe public place and verify everything works before swapping.
That might be worth a shot, but I’d feel a bit uneasy doing a trade with a stranger. At least with a store, they check everything before reselling it. I don’t really know the best way to sell an Xbox online safely either, so it’s a bit intimidating.

Yeah, I’m worried that trading it in will really shortchange me. I guess selling privately could be better, but I’m just not sure where to start or how safe it is.
