I’ve been a devoted player of Guild Wars 2 since it went free-to-play in 2015. This game has given me countless unforgettable friendships and moments. But lately, I’ve felt the need to voice my concerns about the current state of the game. With the recent expansions, particularly Secrets of the Obscure and now Janthir Wilds, I can’t shake the feeling that the quality and quantity of content we receive just doesn’t compare to what we used to get. The new maps seem smaller and less vibrant, masteries feel repetitive, and story missions end far too quickly. I wanted to know how others feel about this shift. Have we been promised too much? Is ArenaNet really investing in Guild Wars 2, or are they just maintaining it as they focus on something else? I love this game and want to see it thrive again!

As someone new to the game, I didn’t experience the glory days, so the current updates are fine for me. Sure, I can see some areas lack depth and excitement, but this frequent content pacing keeps me engaged. I didn’t have to grind through long gaps for content as some veteran players did, so it works for me!
I’ve noticed the same decline in quality! The recent maps feel lifeless compared to earlier expansions like HoT and PoF. The masteries seem like repeats of old mechanics, and the story just doesn’t hit the same way it used to. ArenaNet definitely seems to be in maintenance mode, which is frustrating because I believe they still have the talent to pull off something amazing. Transparency about what’s really going on behind the scenes could really help us all feel better about where the game is headed.
I completely agree. It’s like they’re just trying to keep us happy with crumbs instead of giving us a full meal. I miss the ambition we used to see in their updates!
I get what you’re saying, but I think ArenaNet has been upfront about the reduced scope of content due to their new development model. They’re trying to balance work-life for the devs and maximize their output. Sure, it feels less engaging than before, but at least we’re getting something steady instead of long droughts, right?
True, but steady doesn’t mean good. I just feel like we’ve settled for mediocrity. A lot of us would gladly wait longer for something truly worthwhile.
That’s a fair perspective, but as an older player, I worry that the game might lose its charm if this is how things are going to stay. It needs a spark to really bring back the magic.
