Hey everyone! I’m planning to build a new gaming PC and I’m excited to try it out with Linux since I’ve heard there have been some great improvements for gaming on that platform. I’m not really knowledgeable about hardware, so I’m wondering if my current parts list makes sense or if there are any potential issues specifically for Linux compatibility. Here’s what I’m looking at:
– **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
– **Motherboard**: Gigabyte B550 GAMING X V2 ATX AM4
– **Memory**: Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
– **Storage**: Kingston NV3 2 TB M.2 NVME SSD
– **Video Card**: XFX Speedster QICK 319 Core Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB
– **Case**: be quiet! Pure Base 500 ATX Mid Tower
– **Power Supply**: be quiet! System Power 10 750 W 80+ Bronze Certified
The total comes to about €991.94. Let me know if you see any red flags or if I should make any changes!

I think your build looks pretty solid! Just a heads up, though—swap out that Gigabyte motherboard for an Asrock B550. Also, if it comes with a Mediatek Wi-Fi chip, replace it with an Intel AX210 for better Linux support. You’ll probably have a better experience overall!
Honestly, Linux’s compatibility is getting better every day. It’s really user-friendly for gaming these days. With the right distro like Linux Mint, you should have a good time gaming on it! No matter what, I think you’ll be just fine with this build.
If you’re building fresh for gaming, I’d recommend considering the Ryzen 7 5700X3D instead of the 5600X if your budget allows—it offers better performance for gaming, especially on Linux!
Why’s that? What makes the 5700X3D a better choice?
Have you thought about going with an AM5 build? It might give you some extra future-proofing. Just a thought!
Well, tell that to my HP Dragonfly Elite G3! It’s a pain to get the webcam to work with the IPU6 driver, haha!
