Hey everyone! I’m about to finish up my PC build that I’ve been working on for the last couple of months. I was planning to go with the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD, but I’ve heard some mixed reviews and it makes me a bit hesitant. Does anyone know if it’s truly worth it, or are there better alternatives? I’m primarily using it for gaming and some VR. I’m finding it for $250 on eBay. Thanks in advance!

I think a lot of the issues with the 990 Pro were resolved some time ago; just ensure the firmware is updated if you get an older model. Honestly, it might be overkill for gaming though—you’re only looking at 1-2 seconds of loading time saved compared to slower drives. A more budget-friendly option could work just as well without the extra cost.
The SN850X is a solid choice too. Just a heads up, it’s about a $12 difference on eBay. Do you think that’s worth it?
Definitely check out the NM790 4TB. Just be aware that it’s $285 on eBay compared to the $250 for the Samsung. Is that extra cost justified for what you’re looking for?
Consider the EVO Plus if you find it cheaper! For gaming, there’s practically no difference in performance between the 990 Pro and EVO Plus. The EVO Plus tends to produce less heat and is a bit more power-efficient. The 990 Pro might be faster by a small margin in tasks like video editing, but for gaming, you won’t notice much!
I actually went with the 990 Pro with heatsink already, but your info is super helpful! I just wanted something fast because I’ve been tired of waiting ages for my VR games to load.
