Hey everyone! I’m wrapping up my PC build and looking to get the final part. I was eyeing the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB NVMe, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about it and I’m getting a bit hesitant. Are there any good alternatives that I should consider? My main use will be regular gaming and some VR. I found it on eBay for $250. Appreciate any advice!

The SN850X is a solid choice if you’re considering alternatives. Just keep in mind, it’s only a small price difference on eBay, but check the current prices to see if it fits your budget!
Honestly, any issues with the 990 Pro were likely fixed ages ago. Just make sure to update the firmware if you get one that’s been sitting in stock. It’s overkill for gaming, though, saving only 1-2 seconds in load times compared to cheaper drives. If you want to save some bucks, go with something less expensive without worrying too much!
The NM790 4TB is another option worth considering! It’s a bit pricier at $285 on eBay compared to the Samsung at $250, but it could be a great fit for your needs!
Is it worth going a bit higher for the NM790?
Have you thought about the EVO Plus? It’s usually cheaper and performs just as well for gaming. The 990 Pro is slightly faster in bandwidth, but you won’t notice the difference in gaming. Plus, the EVO Plus runs cooler and is versatile with PCIE lanes. Overall, I think it’s a better deal for gamers!
Thanks! I just snagged the PRO with a heatsink for $250. I just wanted to be overprepared since I’ve been waiting forever for VR loads!
Is it really worth the extra cash? Only like $12 more, right?
