Hey folks, I’m finally making the switch to PC gaming after years on console, and I could really use your help deciding on a GPU. I’ve got a budget of around $1600 USD just for the PC itself (no peripherals), and I want to make sure I get something that seriously outperforms my current PS5. I’m looking for a GPU that can handle major upcoming games like GTA VI and won’t need replacing in just a couple of years.
Right now, I’m eyeing these options:
– RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
– RTX 4070 12GB
– RTX 4070 Super 12GB
– Radeon RX 7800 XT
The RX 7800 XT is the most affordable option for me, sitting about $150 under the 4060 Ti. While the specs look solid, I keep hearing that AMD’s FSR isn’t quite as good as Nvidia’s DLSS, which makes me hesitant. Since I want this to last, do you think the RX 7800 XT is still a smart buy in 2025, or should I stretch the budget for one of the Nvidia GPUs? Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, the RX 7800 XT seems like a solid pick, especially if you’re not too concerned about ray tracing. However, if you can find a 7900 XT for just a bit more, that could be worth it since it offers better performance. Keep in mind that future-proofing is tough nowadays due to the way game optimization is going. Also, while some games run better with DLSS, the 7800 XT should tackle most upcoming titles without a hiccup.
Yeah, I agree with that. The RX 7800 XT is definitely good for this budget, but I’d also think about whether you prioritize performance in certain types of games.
