With all the recent updates and new perks available, I’ve been wondering if the Pepper Shaker is now the best shotgun out there. It already has a damage boost being a shotgun and with the Heavy Guns perks, it gets even stronger. It has all the benefits from former shotgun perks like pellet damage and bonus damage against crippled targets. Plus, there’s the possibility of pairing it with Plasma or Laser mods for added damage. Are there any strategies or builds that can maximize its potential? Anyone tried it against tough enemies like the EN06?

A random perk that I’ve noticed is that using the single barrel mod has eliminated my annoying reload bug that made reloading a nightmare. So that’s a win!
If you’re looking for build advice, I’d say try focusing on a dual barrel for quick crippling. It performed well in my tests with the EN06 shield, though I had to be strategic about hiding during fights. I’ve soloed with the Pepper Shaker in combo with melee weapons and buffs, pretty effective overall! Just don’t expect it to shine in every scenario.
Interesting! I’ve been hearing mixed results about it—seems like it’s more about personal playstyle.
Yes, shotgunner perks still apply if you switch ammo types, which makes it even more versatile!
I think it’s important to consider your weapon’s legendary effects and how they align with your perks. Heavy Weapons might see future tweaks, so who knows how things will balance out!
Honestly, I can get similar or even better DPS with a Gatling Plasma, haha! But dealing with kneeling Super Mutants with just a couple Pepper Shaker shots is hilarious. Just please don’t nerf it, Bethesda!
The Pepper Shaker is definitely feeling OP right now, especially against targets that can be crippled. However, I’ve found that using the single barrel mod really cuts down on fire rate, and you don’t really get double the crippling or damage. For solid performance, I recommend the hex barrel with a plasma mod—great balance between crippling and damage, it can take out enemies fast in the open world.
You might consider switching to a standard magazine for tougher foes like the Snake, since ballistic damage is better for crippling than energy damage from plasma.
Totally agree! The single barrel feels weak—too slow and I’ve seen health glitches when using it.
Agreed! I’ve had great success with a Gatling laser set up that still able to take down shields quickly.
