I’ve been thinking about the trend with recent Zelda games and how the new Warriors game relates to it. Age of Calamity seemed to try to fill in some gaps from Breath of the Wild’s story, which was kind of lacking. But now, with this new game being launched so close to Tears of the Kingdom, I’m curious if Nintendo has figured out that they can profit from games with less complete stories. Do you think they intentionally left the story of TotK a bit unfinished to justify selling it in a new Warriors game?

Honestly, I think people are overreacting. TotK had a solid story; I really enjoyed it! I don’t see how this could be seen as a decline. Some parts are just meant to be open to interpretation and expansion.
I don’t think they mean to write ‘bad’ stories on purpose. Age of Calamity succeeded by showing events leading up to BotW, but it’s also true that not everything is literally accurate. There’s still a lot of important context in this Warriors game that connects nicely with BotW’s narrative.
But can’t we argue that a lot of what happened in AoC is rewritten? The core events are there, but the details feel different.
You’re definitely reading too much into it. I mean, sure, the trend is interesting, but I think Nintendo is using the Warriors format to tell these stories because it’s a popular game type. Not necessarily because they’re trying to shortchange us on story!
Fair point, but I feel like two big wars referenced only through memories really opens the door for more games to explore those timelines, don’t you think?
