I found the Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF going for $229, which seems like an awesome deal. It’s actually the lowest price I’ve seen so far, and I’m tempted to snag it. I’m currently running an AMD 5600x and a 3080 setup, and I’m hoping to upgrade my CPU. I mainly game but also do some streaming and video/audio editing using Davinci Resolve. I know the latest AMD x3d processors are top-notch for gaming, but considering my other uses and this price point, I’m looking into the 265KF because the performance gap isn’t too drastic at 1440p. Should I consider any other options?

Honestly, I don’t have much trust in Intel anymore after their recent issues. But I have to admit, the 265KF does have potential if you are primarily into audio editing and require low latency, especially at that price. Just keep an eye on motherboard options; Z890 boards are decent for flexibility but remember you’ll need fast RAM to really get the most out of it.
Just a heads up, you might need a new motherboard and possibly RAM, plus a new cooler depending on your current one. The ultra chips are great for multi-threaded tasks like video editing, but for gaming, some benchmarks show that the 265KF can fall behind older models like the 9600x. But if you’re focused on editing too, it could be a solid buy.
Exactly! If editing is a big part of your workload, it could definitely be worth it.
While the 265KF might seem tempting, nothing from AMD really compares at that price for performance. It’s particularly effective for audio editing and other heavy tasks. Just make sure to do some thorough benchmark comparisons before making your choice; many don’t see the real-world applications that might favor this chip.
Totally! A lot of people only focus on gaming metrics, but the 265KF shines in other areas.
If you are looking at the varied workloads rather than just gaming, the 265KF might just be right on the money for you. Just be mindful that the LGA1851 platform isn’t going to offer upgrade options later on. But if you’re okay with this build lasting several years without upgrades, it could work perfectly for you.
I agree about the RAM; I think 7600MHz is the sweet spot to aim for with this chip.
