I’m thinking about trying out Terraria but I’m not sure how its difficulty stacks up against Hollow Knight. I’ve never played Terraria before, so I’m wondering if it’s beginner-friendly and how challenging it is compared to Hollow Knight. Any advice or insights would be great!

Terraria’s difficulty really depends on the mode you pick. If you’re new, Journey Mode is super beginner-friendly with lots of quality-of-life features to make the experience smoother. The game is pretty fun if you enjoy grinding and building up your stuff over time. It’s not super fast-paced, so if that’s your thing, it might take some getting used to.
Honestly, it’s kind of hard to compare the two directly since they’re very different styles of games. Terraria focuses more on crafting, building, and grinding with sandbox elements, while Hollow Knight is a tight, challenging Metroidvania with a big focus on precise combat and platforming. So it depends what kind of challenge you’re looking for!
I think Terraria is quite friendly for new players. Playing on normal difficulty with a classic character should be pretty doable. Plus, the game helps you out quite a bit with the Guide NPC you get early on, and there’s an amazing wiki if you ever get stuck or want tips.
Just a heads up, Terraria has multiple difficulty modes. Classic Mode is the default and great for new players. Expert Mode bumps up the challenge with smarter bosses and better rewards. Then Master Mode makes things even tougher but gives you an extra accessory slot and cool boss relics. Journey Mode, on the other hand, is perfect if you want to focus on fun and exploration without the grind or stress, especially if you’ve played the game a few times already.
From my experience, Terraria is a lot easier than Hollow Knight, especially for a full playthrough. You can prepare a lot, cheese some bosses if you want, and basically play any way you like. Hollow Knight is more unforgiving, where if you struggle, you struggle. Also, Terraria has some RNG elements for item drops, so sometimes progress involves a grind, but you can control a lot of the pacing yourself.
Good to know! Sounds like there’s more flexibility, which is nice.
Thanks, that sounds really helpful! I’ll definitely keep the Guide NPC and the wiki in mind.
