Hey everyone! Silent Hill 2 is currently 40% off, and I’ve been thinking about giving it a shot. I remember it had a rough launch, so I wanted to see if there have been any improvements made to its performance since then. Has anyone tried it recently?

I’ve been playing Silent Hill 2 on my Steam Deck and it ran pretty smoothly! I used a Russian patch called Kefir, and I managed a stable 30fps, even during the intro. Depending on your settings, you can get even better performance!
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the optimization has improved much. The intro sequence and other parts of the game barely run above 20fps, even on the lowest settings. You might want to hold off if you’re looking for a smoother experience.
They’ve done a few small patches originally, but nothing major lately. I did come across a patch designed specifically for the Steam Deck that worked fine for me, at least for the short time I played. It’s a great game, so I think it’s worth trying out despite the issues!
I played it on the OLED deck and it was fine for me. There are mods available that reduce fog density, which helps quite a bit in certain areas. Just be aware that the garden area can drop frames significantly.
